John Bernstein is a partner of Generation Investment Management, the sustainable investment firm that has played a pioneering role in the development of sustainable and environmental, social and governance investing since its founding in 2004. Within this role, John chairs the investment committee of the growth equity business and leads the long-term sustainable private equity business.
From 2008 to 2017, John was head of General Atlantic (GA) in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He was also on the global investment committee and executive committee. Before joining GA, John served as a partner at Advent International, where he led the European telecom and technology investment practice.
John is on the boards of FNZ, Howden Insurance and The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Global Board and serves as chairman of TNC’s Investment Committee. He is a board member of the NamibR and Nature Reserve in Namibia and is actively involved in establishing a new nature reserve in Namibia. John previously served as chair on TNC’s Africa Council. John holds an MA in economics and law from Downing College, Cambridge University, and is qualified as a barrister.
