  • Land Deal Expands Cove Mountain Preserve

    Press Release | March 4, 2021

The Pennsylvania and Delaware chapter of The Nature Conservancy announced today that it has closed on a land deal to expand its existing Cove Mountain Preserve, which now creates a 14-mile stretch of protected land along the Kittatinny Ridge.

This purchase expands the size of the preserve from 353 to 1,411 acres and connects it to Pennsylvania state game lands. Approximately 213 additional acres will be transferred to the Pennsylvania Game Commission in the near future.

  • 373 Acres Added to PA State Forest Lands

    Press Release | January 28, 2021

The Nature Conservancy in Pennsylvania has announced the transfer of 373 acres of land in Canadensis to Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Forestry.  That land, along with two previous transfers—of 376 and 319 acres—totals 1,068 acres that TNC and the Bureau have collaboratively protected since 2017 to expand State Forest lands in the Pocono Mountains.

“It’s a great day when more than 1,000 acres of wild, forested land are permanently protected,” said Ellen Lott, Conservation Lands Project Manager for TNC in Pennsylvania and Delaware. “We’re thrilled to transfer these properties to DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry, which manages Pennsylvania’s forests. These additions will provide new recreational opportunities while protecting wildlife habitat, sensitive wetlands and healthy waterways.”

  • Cove Mountain Preserve expansion to benefit nature, naturalists, communities

    The Burg | November 30, 2020

The Cove Mountain Preserve has plans for a major expansion—an extension that will offer new opportunities for recreation, hunting and other activities—and create a 14-mile stretch of protected land along the Kittatinny Ridge. The preserve is in Marysville, just north of the capital city.

The Pennsylvania and Delaware chapters of the Nature Conservancy (TNC) recently announced the purchase of former timberlands that will quadruple the size of the protected area and connect existing trails on Cove Mountain to PA state game lands, the Appalachian Trail and the borough of Marysville.
