Biography
Wendy Mathews joined TNC in 1992 and is currently senior conservation projects manager in the Land Protection Department. In this role, Wendy is responsible for supporting the implementation of TNC’s land protection work in Florida, including conservation real estate transactions and identifying new projects that further TNC’s mission, as well as managing TNC’s Florida panther project.
Wendy has spent her career with TNC as an ecologist in the Land Protection Department working to protect the best of Florida’s natural and agricultural landscapes. Working with various organizations and agencies, such as the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Forever program and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, she has helped conserve many hundreds of thousands of acres statewide.
Wendy negotiates complicated real estate transactions on behalf of TNC, state and federal partners. In 2001, Wendy stepped into the role of managing TNC’s Florida conservation easement program, which includes conservation easement document preparation, negotiation and annually monitoring TNC’s 50 conservation easements throughout the state, which total approximately 40,000 acres. Recently, Wendy has been involved with Florida panther corridor work in south-central Florida to help create wildlife corridors and connected landscapes for successful Florida panther migration across the Caloosahatchee River.
